  • Lao New Year Celebrations April 3, 2010 - April 4, 2010.
    Ever-since the plight of Lao refugees from the country of "Laos" in the 1970s/1980s. A sizable Lao community has established itself in the San Diego area. Then in 1992, an organization known as the LCCC (Lao Cultural Community Center) established itself with the mission of promoting cultural heritage and traditions. As many Lao people commence the celebration of the up-coming Lao New Year, so to will the LCCC be hosting events and festivities. And so, please join us and enjoy yourselves. Events will include the following: "A Lao traditional costume fashion show and competition, release of the dove ceremony, Baci religious rites, Lao classical dances, Lao sporting events, demonstration of the traditional arts and crafts of Laotian ancestors, food, games, musical entertainment, etc." LCCC Evening Gala/New Year Party, Saturday, April 3, 2010. 7 pm to 1 am, 404 Euclid Ave., San Diego, CA 92114.   • International Lao New Year Festival Year 2553 (ILNYF) - April 10, 2010
    San Francisco City Hall/Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco, California. Main event will take
    place at 10 AM to 5 PM; Night reception at 7 PM to 12 AM. Chief sponsors of this event includes: LANA (Laotian American National Alliance, Inc.), Center for Lao Studies and LHF (Lao Heritage Foundation). More information on this event can be found HERE
  • Lao New Year, Wat Lao Buddhavong: Washington DC, April 17th to April 18th.
    The wat is actually located at 3043 Catlett Road (Route 28), Catlett, Va. 22019. "It is located on a beautiful landscape of 58.7 acres, which is about a 40 minutes drive from the Capital Beltway. It has drawn Buddhists from all over the United States and abroad. The main ceremonial building of the temple, the Sala Hong Tham (Dhamma Hall), was dedicated on July 3, 1993. The recently finished paintings on one side of the upper wall tell the story of the Lord Buddha and on the other side tell the story of His preceding lives." Although the wat used to have a website, it currently doesn't have one. Unlike other new year celebrations that will be taking part all over the world, none can claim to be taking place so close to Washington D.C. Fundraiser Dinner to Launch Jai Lao - "One Night in Laos" - San Ramon, CA on August 8, 2009
Join Jai Lao Foundation as we launch our first fundraiser benefit dinner party celebrating Lao art and culture. Cross over the Golden Gate in CA and step back into time and be transported to another country - the enchanted land of Laos. Stroll the streets of Laos and stop to savor the flavors of Laos from various street vendors serving Lao pho soup, our signature papaya salad, hot and sizzling BBQ, tasty laab, and sweet desserts. Live Lao cultural entertainment will keep your heart beating for all things Lao. Please support us with a $50 per person donation to contribute to our foundation's fund for renovating schools in Laos. Formal invitations to follow for those replying to attend.
